Heeler Hat 5: Construction
You’ve made all the pieces, hooray! Now it’s time to put it all together.
Now, you are the one that has to live with your results, so the most important thing is that the placement looks correct to you. I recommend pulling up a picture of the actual character and using that for reference as you place the facial features. Below are some notes on how I like to place the features.
The first pieces that I place on the hat are the eyes and eyebrows. The eyes should overlap the stripe of color in the middle by a tiny bit and make sure the pupils in the eyes are where you want them before you sew the eyes on!
The eyebrows should be placed roughly in line with the top of the color stripe with a small gap between them and the top of the eyes.
I put the snout/nose piece at the bottom middle of the hat. The snout may or may not overlap the bottom inner corners of the eyes. To me eye, it looks OK either way.
I put the ears very close to the top of the head, on either side of the circle of the very first round of DCs you made in a magic ring to start the hat.
That’s it! You’re done! I wish I could say I patiently weave in all the extra ends, but I don’t. I mostly knot them inside the hat and cut them short. It’s not pretty but it also doesn’t really show.
